Creating 30 jobs for women
Norwegian Better Living Projects´mission is to create skills, employment and generate wages for women living in rural India. The company has already begun with its first project, where they aim to create jobs for 30 women in ethical textile production.
Better Living Projects raised $20,000 to set up a sewing center
While on a visit to the rural community of Sujata (Bihar) in 2016, one of the co-founders of Better Living Projects spent over one month with the villagers.
In February, Better Living Projects returned to Sujata and started work in full swing. Through a mix of crowdfunding and private donations, they raised over $20,000. To begin with, a small scale sewing centre was set up to make ethically produced tote bags, with plans in the pipeline to add more sustainable fashion geared projects.
In October this year, Better Living Projects began the project with ten women from Sujata who were trained in textile production but didn’t have the means to execute these skills. These bags will feature customised branding and will then be sold in Norway. The sales generated by selling these products will be used to support the women involved in making them.
Nordic Hub India is playing a role in connecting Better Living Projects with the right resources and partners.
